Засідання читацького клубу, присвячене обговоренню роману Крістін Генни «Провулок світлячків»(2008, 2024 – український переклад Таїсії Івченко), яке відбулося 2 квітня 2026 р., стало подією, що об’єднала студентів та викладачів навколо глибокого й емоційного осмислення сучасної зарубіжної прози. Твір викликав жвавий інтерес завдяки поєднанню захопливого сюжету, психологічної насиченості та актуальної проблематики.
Роман належить до жанрової прози з елементами сімейної саги та роману про дорослішання (coming-of-age). У центрі твору – історія багаторічної дружби двох жінок, яка розгортається на тлі змін суспільства, особистісного становлення та життєвих випробувань. Саме ця багатошаровість жанрової структури робить текст доступним для широкого читача і водночас відкриває можливості для глибокого літературознавчого аналізу.
У центрі дискусії опинилися образи головних героїнь – Таллі Гарт і Кейт Малларкі. Учасники читацького клубу відзначили їхню контрастність і водночас взаємодоповнюваність. Таллі – амбітна, незалежна, орієнтована на кар’єру, тоді як Кейт уособлює цінність родини, стабільності та емоційної близькості. Їхня дружба постає як складний, динамічний процес, що проходить через конфлікти, розчарування та примирення. Саме ця багатовимірність стосунків викликала особливий інтерес під час дискусії, адже дозволяє говорити про універсальні проблеми – вибір життєвого шляху, баланс між особистим і професійним, ціну успіху.
Окремо учасники звернули увагу на соціально-культурний контекст роману. Події, що охоплюють кілька десятиліть, відображають зміни у ролі жінки в суспільстві, трансформацію уявлень про кар’єру, сім’ю та самореалізацію. Це дозволяє розглядати «Провулок світлячків» не лише як історію дружби, а як ширше культурне свідчення епохи. Показовими стали слова студентки СГФ групи 1УМЛ Анастасії Ракус-Свергунової: «Перші пів книги було мені трохи нудно, а далі я вже поринула в сюжет та не могла відірватися. Книга не легка, але глибока. Знаю, що зняли серіал за цією історією, але після книги, ввімкнувши серіал, зрозуміла, що це зовсім не те».
Обговорення показало, що роман Крістін Генни має значний потенціал для формування емоційного інтелекту читачів. Він спонукає до рефлексії над власним досвідом, цінністю людських стосунків і важливістю підтримки в складні моменти життя.

Friendship through the years: the reading club discussed kristin hannah’s novel “Firefly lane”
The meeting of the reading club, dedicated to discussing Kristin Hannah’s novel “Firefly Lane” (2008; Ukrainian translation by Taisiia Ivchenko, 2024), held on April 2, 2026, became an event that brought together students and lecturers for a deep and emotional reflection on contemporary foreign prose. The work sparked lively interest due to its combination of an engaging plot, psychological depth, and актуальні themes.
The novel belongs to genre fiction with elements of a family saga and a coming-of-age narrative. At its center is the story of a long-term friendship between two women, unfolding against the backdrop of social change, personal growth, and life challenges. This multilayered genre structure makes the text accessible to a wide readership while also offering opportunities for in-depth literary analysis.
The discussion focused on the main characters, Tully Hart and Kate Mularkey. Participants of the reading club noted both their contrast and complementarity. Tully is ambitious, independent, and career-oriented, while Kate embodies the values of family, stability, and emotional closeness. Their friendship appears as a complex and dynamic process, marked by conflicts, disappointments, and reconciliation. This multidimensionality of relationships aroused particular interest during the discussion, as it allows one to address universal issues such as life choices, the balance between personal and professional life, and the price of success.

As noted by Anastasiia Rakus-Sverhunova, a first-year student of the Social and Humanitarian Faculty, “The first half of the book felt a bit slow to me, but then I became completely absorbed in the story and couldn’t put it down. The book is not easy, but it is profound. I know there is a TV series based on it, but after reading the book and then watching the series, I realized it is not the same.”
The discussion demonstrated that Kristin Hannah’s novel has significant potential for developing readers’ emotional intelligence. It encourages reflection on personal experience, the value of human relationships, and the importance of support in difficult moments of life.
The reading club meeting once again confirmed that contemporary fiction can not only captivate with its plot but also serve as a space for a profound dialogue about the human condition, personal choices, and responsibility. It is through such discussions that a culture of attentive reading and critical thinking is formed—an essential component in the training of future philologists.
